I’m convinced that in Spider-Gwen’s original run that plan was to have these two get together until editorial stepped in and made them do a Gwen-Miles relationship. My evidence is this: 1) MJ in the comic is seen sleeping with Betsy Brant, showing that MJ at least is into girls. 2) MJ also pretty clearly has strong feelings for Gwen already, because when she goes missing MJ out of all of her friends cares the most and does the most to find her. 3) at one point Gwen travels to a universe where MJ has become the equivalent of the Green Goblin and it’s *heavily* implied that the Spider-Gwen of that universe was in a relationship with Goblin-MJ. 4) Gwen’s entire arch was how alone she felt and that she didn’t have anyone to rely on or who she could trust with the burden of being Spider-Gwen. The logical conclusion of this arch is to realize that she didn’t have to do it alone, and that her best friend would always be there for her and loved her. The logical conclusion of this arch is *not* avoid my problems and move to another universe like what actually happened.
Tl;dr: pretty sure this was the original plan but got changed at some point.
